I’ll be honest—I’m hopeless when it comes to brainteasers. When I was six, my grandmother gave me a “train your brain” book for my birthday. Needless to say, it sat untouched on the shelf until I was almost sixteen. Even then, I struggled to figure out half the puzzles inside.
Still, I’m well aware of how popular brainteasers and illusions are online. People everywhere seem to love testing their skills by trying to spot hidden objects or images that are right in front of their eyes.
With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to share a puzzle I came across recently. Believe me, it’s had me scratching my head trying to get a high score—but I’ll readily admit that I don’t have the sharpest eyes out there. In the brainteaser below, you’re tasked with counting the number of faces hidden in the “National Leaders Tree.”
It’s not clear where the image originally came from, but it’s quickly gained popularity online, as people compete to see who can find the most faces.
Of course, the two faces at the bottom of the tree are easy to spot. The real challenge lies in finding all the others.
Interestingly, the number of faces you spot supposedly says something about your memory skills.
Sure, there are more scientific ways to assess memory, but if you’re up for a bit of fun, count how many faces you see. Once you’ve made your guess, scroll down to see what your result might reveal about you.
As mentioned, the two faces at the base of the tree are clear to everyone. If you only manage to find one or two more, it might suggest that you have a memory disorder.
5 to 6 faces
If you spot more than four faces, that’s a positive sign. However, if you only find five or six, it could mean you’re at a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s or dementia.
7 to 8 faces
Your memory is perfectly fine, but there’s room for improvement. Keep training your brain with exercises like this!
More than 9 faces
Well done! Finding nine or more faces indicates excellent memory and strong facial recognition abilities.
