The age-old question has finally been answered: Yes, Virginia, a bear does fart in the woods! In an epic trail cam capture, Bob Etzweiler provides definitive proof. His trail cam in Marlboro, Vermont, caught the scene in April 2024. The innocent-looking bear lets loose with a bout of flatulence that would make Grandma proud, then promptly falls asleep.

It never fails—when farts are involved, most of us revert to 12-year-old boys, giggling and hollering about the accompanying odors. Whether you are home alone or out in public, a well-timed fart will cause an involuntary burst of laughter.

Everyone, and most animals, fart as a way of releasing gas from their digestive tracts. However, seagulls cannot fart, so please don’t feed them Alka-Seltzer. Farting is a normal bodily function, but it can still be embarrassing. Watching this bear as he farts provides the satisfaction of knowing that nature haunts other living beings too.

Dogs can occasionally release some wonderfully awful odors. Puppies are hilarious as they look at their butts, trying to figure out what just happened. As a cat owner, I can attest that they have run me out of a room on more than one occasion. If you’re a human and emit a “silent but deadly” blast, you can always blame it on the dog to avoid embarrassment. The dog won’t mind, trust me (I speak from experience).

Although bear farts aren’t a common catch on trail cams, bears often get curious about the technology. Bear snouts are a frequent sight as the animals enjoy booping cameras. We can barely stand the cuteness overload! If you laughed at the bear farts, please share.
