The close friendship between Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler is still thriving, as Schneider recently shared how often the Waterboy star checks in on him. Although it’s been a while since they appeared on screen together—last seen in 2020’s Hubie Halloween—their bond remains strong.
At the New York premiere of Sandler’s new Netflix comedy special, Adam Sandler: Love You, on August 20, Schneider expressed his admiration for their friendship.
He revealed to PEOPLE that in their nearly 50-year friendship, Sandler has consistently checked in on him, saying, “There’s not been a week in 30 years where he doesn’t check in on me.” Schneider added that Sandler even calls him at odd hours, no matter where he is in the world, just to see how he’s doing.
Reflecting on their long-standing friendship, Schneider remarked on how incredible it is that Sandler continues to include him in his projects. “He’s a special cat,” Schneider said, expressing his love and admiration for Sandler, wishing him health, happiness, and continued success.
Schneider also hinted at the possibility of appearing in Happy Gilmore 2, a sequel to one of Sandler’s classic films. Although he didn’t confirm his involvement, he teased, “We’ll see.”
Schneider praised Sandler’s career, noting that he’s just getting started and highlighting his recent successful projects like Hustle and Uncut Gems. He also mentioned Sandler’s upcoming Netflix movie with George Clooney, emphasizing what a great partnership it is for the streaming giant to have “the biggest movie star in the world” on board.
Sandler himself shared his excitement about the sequel, telling PEOPLE, “I’m more than excited, probably the most excited I’ve been in many years to shoot something.” He added that they’ve worked hard on creating something that people will enjoy.
