I’m sure the male readers will be filled with sympathy after hearing about Thanat Tangtewanon’s unfortunate bathroom incident.
While most trips to the bathroom are a brief escape from the world’s constant demands, Thanat’s experience turned into a nightmare when a hidden python struck, biting him on the testicles.
Thanat, a Thai man, shared his traumatic ordeal on social media on August 20. He posted images and videos showing himself holding a 12-foot-long snake by its neck, with blood spattered across the bathroom floor and toilet.
Thanat explained that he had woken up around 10 a.m. and, as usual, flushed the toilet to clear any “unwelcome surprises” before sitting down. Assuming all was clear, he was taken by shock when he felt a sharp pain in his testicles, realizing something was biting him.
“I reached down and, to my horror, grabbed a snake by the neck, its fangs still embedded,” Thanat recounted, detailing how he armed himself with a toilet brush and fought off the reptile.
“I jumped up and yanked it off,” he continued. “At that moment, I felt more shock than pain. I grabbed the snake’s neck tightly, trying to pull it out of the toilet, but it was incredibly strong and wouldn’t budge.”
In a desperate struggle, Thanat struck the snake with a nearby toilet brush, accidentally hitting his hand a few times. But no one can blame him for the determination with which he defended himself. Eventually, the snake went limp, and he was able to pry its fangs from his body.
After the ordeal, he called for security to remove the now-dead python and had a neighbor drive him to the hospital.
“Fortunately, I’m okay now, and in case you were wondering, my testicles are fine,” Thanat assured. “It turned out to be a non-venomous python. I had my blood checked yesterday, and everything seems fine, but I’ll need another test today to be sure. I’ve got some wounds from the bite and from pulling the snake off, but nothing too serious.”
Monsoon rains in Thailand often displace animals from their hiding spots, and authorities there warn residents to be cautious of snakes during the rainy season.
One can only hope that Thanat’s story serves as a cautionary tale, making men around the world more aware of the potential danger lurking in their bathrooms.
