During a live performance on Thursday (September 5), Linkin Park announced Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara as their new lead vocalist. Colin Brittain, known for his work with G Flip, Illenium, and One OK Rock, will join the band as their new drummer.

The announcement was accompanied by the release of “The Emptiness Machine,” Linkin Park’s first new song in seven years. The track is the lead single from their upcoming album From Zero, scheduled for release on November 15. This marks the band’s first full-length project since Chester Bennington’s death in 2017.

Following Bennington’s passing, the band went on hiatus, but they reignited their presence with a countdown update on their website on August 24, 2024, leading up to the recent announcement.

The band also revealed plans for a global tour. Mike Shinoda, co-founder and co-lead vocalist, shared that the album’s title, From Zero, reflects both the band’s origins and its evolution. He emphasized that the new music pays homage to their past while looking forward to the future, respecting both new and long-time members, as well as their fans.

Reactions to the announcement have been mixed. Some fans have embraced Armstrong as a fitting choice, noting her strong live performance and unique voice.

Others have compared her situation to Adam Lambert’s initial reception with Queen, suggesting that acceptance will grow over time as Armstrong and the band continue to honor Bennington’s legacy.
