Sir Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, have been together for over 20 years, raising their two sons, Zachary and Elijah. While John has an illustrious career with 32 albums, he is now focusing more on family life.

The couple met in 1993 when John invited friends, including Furnish, to dinner. John fondly remembers being immediately drawn to Furnish’s shyness and style. Their relationship quickly progressed, leading to a civil partnership in 2005 and a marriage in 2014, with their sons serving as ring bearers.

Their desire to become parents began in 2009 after forming a connection with Lev, a boy they met at a Ukrainian orphanage. Though unable to adopt Lev, the experience motivated them to have children. They welcomed Zachary in 2010 and Elijah in 2013 via surrogate.

John and Furnish take a hands-on approach to parenting, choosing not to rely on nannies. Furnish explained, “We don’t want to delegate the raising of our children to nannies and housekeepers.” They instill values of humility and financial responsibility by giving their sons small chores and pocket money.

Despite their fame, John and Furnish aim to provide their children with a grounded upbringing. John prioritizes quality time and meaningful lessons over wealth, saying, “I want to leave my boys financially secure, but spoiling them with too much can ruin their lives.”
