Melanie Hamrick, Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, recently responded to critics of their 44-year age gap with a simple five-word reply. The former ballerina, 37, has been in a relationship with the iconic Rolling Stones frontman, 81, since they met backstage at a concert in Tokyo in 2014.
At the time, Hamrick was touring Japan with the American Ballet Theatre, and although their initial connection was purely platonic, the two eventually began dating. They welcomed their son, Deveraux ‘Devi’ Octavian Basil Jagger, in 2016, making him Hamrick’s first child and Jagger’s eighth.
Hamrick, who stirred engagement rumors last year by wearing what appeared to be a promise ring, coyly confirmed, “Yes, Mick gave me the ring. Is it for that finger? Yes.” However, she playfully added, “We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the Virginia-born choreographer addressed the topic of their significant age difference, revealing she wasn’t star-struck when she first met Jagger. “Ballet dancers often meet the biggest stars and think, ‘Who are you?’ We view ballet dancers as the divine ones.”
When asked how she handles the 44-year age gap between her and Jagger, Hamrick simply stated, “I don’t think about it.” She went on to explain that paying attention to other people’s opinions only creates problems: “If you consider others’ perspectives, you’ll always encounter an issue.”
As for her personal philosophy, Hamrick emphasized, “I put blinders on. Am I happy? Yes. Is everyone in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. Okay, they can mind their own business.”
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones have just wrapped up their North American tour promoting their latest album, Hackney Diamonds, with the final show in July at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena. To celebrate the album’s first anniversary, the band announced a special vinyl release.
