The late Kris Kristofferson, a beloved actor and country singer-songwriter, is being honored by his A Star Is Born co-star, Barbra Streisand. Following the news of his peaceful passing at the age of 88 at his home in Maui on Saturday, September 28, Streisand, 82 at the time, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her longtime friend and collaborator.
Streisand shared two touching photos: one from the 1976 film A Star Is Born, where they portrayed Esther Hoffman and John Norman Howard, and another from their recent performance at her British Summer Time concert in Hyde Park, London, in July 2019. Reflecting on their first meeting at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, Streisand remembered Kristofferson as a unique talent. “Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born,” she wrote.
She fondly recalled their iconic duet of the Oscar-winning song “Evergreen” and their reunion on stage in 2019, where they performed another duet from the film, “Lost Inside of You.” Streisand praised Kristofferson’s enduring charm, stating, “The audience showered him with overwhelming applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved.”
In her heartfelt post, she also extended her condolences to Kristofferson’s wife, Lisa Meyers, acknowledging her unwavering support for him over the years.
Kristofferson’s passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow celebrities. Dolly Parton, his longtime friend, shared an emotional message, calling him a “wonderful writer, actor, and friend,” while LeAnn Rimes, Dakota Fanning, Melissa Etheridge, and Reba McEntire all expressed their admiration and sorrow for the loss of such an extraordinary individual.
Kristofferson’s family also issued a statement, sharing their gratitude for the love and support he received throughout his life. “Whenever you see a rainbow, know that he is beaming down at each and every one of us,” they wrote, offering a beautiful image of his lasting legacy.
