On Friday, Jessica Drye Turner took to Facebook with a heart-wrenching plea, sharing a photo of her parents, sister Megan, and 7-year-old nephew Micah, stranded on the roof of their Asheville home as floodwaters from Hurricane Helene surged toward them. Megan, her son, and her elderly parents had been forced to escape their home due to widespread flooding.

In her post, Jessica described the terrifying situation, stating, “They are watching 18-wheelers and cars floating by.” Tragically, Megan and Jessica’s family would suffer a devastating loss. Megan’s parents and young son Micah were among those who perished in the flood. Jessica later revealed that her sister Megan had narrowly survived, recalling how Megan heard a voice urging her to let go of a tree she was clinging to.

Initially resisting, Megan eventually complied, only to be swept away by the powerful current. She was later found wedged between two trailers, where she remained trapped for three hours. During this harrowing time, Megan said she felt the presence of a voice guiding and comforting her until she was rescued.

In a heartbroken update, Jessica shared the devastating news that her family’s home had collapsed, leading to the deaths of her parents and nephew. “The sorrow, heartbreak, and devastation my sisters and I are experiencing are beyond words,” she wrote.

Despite the overwhelming grief, Jessica expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support from others. In a faith-filled post on September 30th, she wrote, “Prayers have carried us this far, and will continue to do so. We’ll see them again one day, and nothing could persuade them to come back after being with Jesus.”

Sadly, the loss of Turner’s family is not an isolated tragedy. As of October 1, at least 130 people have died across five states—Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee—according to the Associated Press.
