Lisa Marie Presley had a heart-wrenching reason for keeping her son Benjamin’s body on dry ice for two months following his death. Lisa Marie passed away in January 2023 at the age of 54, just under four years after her son Benjamin Keough tragically died by suicide.

As the only child of Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie left behind her daughter Riley Keough, star of Daisy Jones & The Six, and her twin daughters, Harper and Finley Lockwood, aged 16. After her passing, a memoir she had written, titled From Here to the Great Unknown, was completed by Riley and released on October 8.

In the memoir, Lisa Marie reflected on Benjamin’s untimely death in 2020, revealing that she kept his body in a casita bedroom for two months before his burial. She explained, “There is no law in California that requires someone to be buried immediately,” and it was crucial for her to have the time to say goodbye to Benjamin, just as she had done with her father, Elvis.

When Elvis died, Lisa Marie was only nine years old, and having his body in the house had been a comfort to her, allowing her to visit him and speak with him. She kept Benjamin’s body at 55 degrees during that period, as she struggled to decide whether to bury him in Hawaii or Graceland.

In the memoir, she admitted, “I got so used to him being there, caring for him… I felt lucky that I could still parent him, even for a little longer, until I was ready to say goodbye.”
