In the new documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen’s wife and a longtime member of the E Street Band, shares her journey with multiple myeloma, a rare cancer she was diagnosed with in 2018. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Scialfa revealed how her diagnosis has impacted her ability to tour and perform.

Joining the E Street Band in 1984, Scialfa also has a successful solo career, working with renowned artists like Don Cherry, Narda Michael Walden, and David Johansen. She’s also recognized as a talented songwriter and producer. Married to Springsteen since 1991, they share three children: Evan, Samuel, and Jessica.

Discussing her health challenges, Scialfa admitted that performing on stage brings her joy, though touring has become difficult due to the strain on her immune system. Despite her health concerns, she makes occasional appearances, savoring each moment on stage. “It’s been a treat to sing a few songs whenever I can join a show,” she shared.

Although Scialfa wasn’t at the documentary’s premiere, she expressed that it offers fans a rare glimpse into her relationship with Springsteen. “Being back onstage with Bruce is a blast,” she said, adding that each show on the tour is a celebration for the band. The documentary will be available on Hulu and Disney+ starting October 25.
