In an interview with The Sunday Times on November 10, the 57-year-old actress and model shared her decision to go makeup-free, explaining how it’s helped her feel “more myself than ever.”
Anderson recounted her bold choice to attend Paris Fashion Week in September 2023 without makeup. “There were these beautiful clothes,” she said, referring to her Vivienne Westwood ensemble. “This incredible hat, this lovely coat—nobody’s going to care if I don’t wear makeup.”
What she didn’t anticipate, however, was the wave of support that followed. “I didn’t realize it would resonate so much with people,” she said. “It’s a powerful message: that we are enough just as we are. I remind myself of that every day.”
Rediscovering Her Authentic Self
Anderson reflected on the divide between her real self and the public persona that defined much of her early career, shaped by her iconic Baywatch role and media coverage of her personal life, including her high-profile relationship with Tommy Lee.
“I created a character to cope with disappointments and challenges,” she revealed. “But now, I’m comfortable showing the real me—a mother, a homebody who loves gardening and cooking.”
“I’m playing myself now,” Anderson added. “I feel more confident than I ever have.”
The Impact on Her Sons
Her public transformation has also had a positive effect on her sons, Brandon, 27, and Dylan, 26. Anderson acknowledged how her previous public image impacted them. “The way people viewed me affected them, and they felt the need to protect me,” she shared.
But now, with her focus on authenticity, Anderson feels they’re in a better place. “I think they feel more at ease with who I am today,” she said. “It’s been a journey for all of us, but we’re in a much better place now.”
