Although not related by blood, the talented group of Harold Reid, Don Reid, Phil Balsley, and Lew DeWitt earned their place in music history by first supporting Johnny Cash from 1964 to 1972. Over time, their perseverance paid off, propelling them to fame with memorable hits like “The Class of ’57” and “Flowers on the Wall.”
With a legacy spanning more than 40 albums, the group amassed numerous accolades, including three Grammys, three Academy of Country Music Awards, and an incredible nine Vocal Group of the Year titles from the Country Music Association—all achieved in just 12 years. Their contributions to music earned them a place in both the Country Music and Gospel Halls of Fame.
One of their most poignant performances came with the song “More Than a Name on a Wall.” This deeply emotional piece honors the memories of fallen soldiers, reminding us they are more than just names etched on memorials. The heartfelt delivery of this song captures themes of war, love, and loss, resonating powerfully with audiences.
