For Brenda, 72, and Dennis Delgado, 78, their wedding day was anything but conventional—it was a celebration of love in the place where their story began: the condiment aisle of Fry’s Food and Drug in Casa Grande, Arizona.
On November 19, the couple exchanged vows in the very grocery store where they first met and later got engaged. Their connection to this unlikely venue runs deep: it’s where Dennis proposed to Brenda nine months after their serendipitous encounter.
Their love story began in August 2021, during a seemingly ordinary grocery trip. While Brenda was selecting a jar of Miracle Whip, Dennis approached her with a playful pandemic-era pickup line.
“You know the best thing about wearing a mask?” he asked. “You can walk past people and judge them under your breath—they’ll never know.”
Brenda burst into laughter, and the two struck up a 30-minute conversation. The following week, they attended church together, finding solace and healing in each other’s company.
Both were navigating profound grief when they met. Brenda had recently lost her husband of 30 years to prostate cancer, while Dennis was mourning the death of his wife of 45 years. Their shared sadness became the foundation for a deep bond, offering each other comfort and hope.
As their relationship blossomed, Brenda playfully told Dennis that he’d need to propose on one knee. True to her words, Dennis popped the question right in aisle eight, the same place they first met.
When it came time to plan their wedding, Brenda suggested the grocery store as the venue. “It was my idea,” she admitted with a smile. “Okay, I’m a little strange.”
Their unique ceremony featured floral arrangements crafted by store employees, and Brenda walked down the condiment aisle to the tune of “The Wedding March” played over the intercom. While others might find the setting unconventional, for Brenda and Dennis, it was the perfect way to honor the love and laughter they discovered among the jars of Miracle Whip.
