An Australian farmer got the surprise of a lifetime while collecting eggs from his chickens one day.
Among the usual eggs was one that stood out—a massive egg weighing 6.2 ounces, three times the size of an average egg. The giant egg was laid by a free-range chicken at Stockman’s Eggs, a farm located in the Atherton Tablelands of north Queensland.
Scott Stockman, the farm’s owner, shared a photo of the extraordinary egg, which looked even more peculiar when compared to a normal-sized egg. However, what made it truly fascinating was what they discovered after cracking it open—another perfectly formed egg inside the larger one.
“Finding two perfectly formed eggs like this is just incredible,” Scott told ABC News Australia.
According to a veterinary sciences expert from Charles Sturt University, this was a rare occurrence. Associate Professor Raf Freire explained that the hen likely developed an egg normally but, for some reason, didn’t lay it. Instead, a second ovum was released, and the chicken formed a shell around both the existing egg and the newly released ovum.
While experts confirmed the egg was safe to eat, Scott noted that with 50,000 eggs collected daily on their farm, they didn’t bother eating it.
It’s an unbelievable story, wouldn’t you agree? If you think it’s just as fascinating, don’t forget to share it with your friends!
