A married couple from Taiwan, Chang Wanji and Shu Shu-ye, both in their 80s, have breathed new life into their routine after decades of monotonous work at their laundry shop. They’ve captured the hearts of social media users worldwide by showcasing stylish outfits left behind by their customers on Instagram.

The duo’s fashionable approach has taken the internet by storm, with people admiring their creative pairings of long-forgotten garments.

Their grandson, Reef Chan, was the inspiration behind this trend. He encouraged his grandparents to mix and match the clothing items, photograph the results, and post them online. Reef’s goal was to bring some excitement to their days, as they often found themselves waiting for customers, feeling like each day was a repeat of the last.

Reef shared his thoughts: “There’s often no one in the laundry, and they’d fall asleep at the counter, feeling down. I wanted to show them that life can still be vibrant, even in old age, while also reminding people to pick up their clothes.”

Though the couple was initially hesitant—due to the tradition of not wearing customers’ clothing—they eventually embraced the idea, with Reef convincing them that “age is not a barrier to good style.”

Although they’ve donated many items to charity, their laundry still houses a large collection of clothes. The positive responses they receive on social media, which Reef happily shares with them, have uplifted their spirits and proved just how much their unique endeavor has resonated with others.
