Courtney Love has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. Over the years, the 60-year-old singer has frequently made headlines, and now she’s doing so again—this time for a major life change.
Love recently revealed that she is making her stay in London permanent. Having lived in the city for the past five years, she shared that in just six months, she will be eligible for British citizenship. With political tensions rising in the U.S., she appears relieved to be settling elsewhere.
Earlier this month, during an event at London’s Geographical Society with Todd Almond, Love discussed Slow Train Coming: Bob Dylan’s Girl from the North Country and Broadway’s Rebirth, an oral history written by Almond. She even performed Bob Dylan’s iconic song Like a Rolling Stone.
During their conversation, Love expressed her appreciation for life in the U.K. “I’m really glad I’m here. It’s so great to live here,” she reportedly said. “I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen. I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me.”
While she didn’t explicitly state that her move was a direct response to Donald Trump’s presidency, she has previously been outspoken about her disapproval of his politics. She once likened his administration to an era of excess and power abuse, referring to it as “emperor-core.”
“In terms of Trump, and particularly this group… it’s like emperor-core. Like, wearing million-dollar watches. Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago,” she remarked.
Love relocated from Los Angeles to London in October 2019. In a 2022 interview, she explained why she preferred the city: “Laws. No guns. Four seasons. Discourse. You stan a middle-aged woman far better. Discretion.”
By 2024, her affection for London had only deepened. “I’m an Anglophile. I love London—it’s my favorite city and the best place I’ve ever lived,” she shared. “I’m left alone, there are laws here that protect me when I’m outspoken, and I love the friends I’ve made.”
Love isn’t the only celebrity seeking a fresh start abroad.
Earlier this month, Rosie O’Donnell announced that she had moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old child and was in the process of securing citizenship.
“I never imagined I’d move to another country, but I decided it was the best choice for me and my 12-year-old,” O’Donnell explained in a TikTok video. “I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my older kids, my friends, and many things about life back home. But I’m trying to build a home here in this beautiful country. When it’s safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America, that’s when we’ll consider coming back.”
She hinted that her decision was influenced by the current political climate, adding, “It’s been heartbreaking to watch what’s happening, both politically and personally. And as we all know, the personal is political.”
Even Ellen DeGeneres and her wife have reportedly made the move overseas.
“Ellen was in England house hunting in early October. She found a home she loved and purchased it soon after,” a source revealed.
With more and more celebrities opting to relocate outside of the U.S., the trend is raising eyebrows.
