Cher’s Son Elijah Blue Allman Faces Divorce Drama as Past Tensions with Famous Mother Resurface

Elijah Blue Allman, the only child of music legends Cher and Gregg Allman, is making headlines once again—but not for his music. On April 8, People reported that Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, had filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The news alone was significant, but it was a rare public photo of Elijah that truly stirred the internet.

“Is it me, or is this the first time we’ve ever seen a picture of him?” one netizen asked after a Facebook post shared by Us Weekly. Others echoed similar sentiments, with comments like, “Wait. Cher has more than one child?” and “I forgot she had another son.” A final observation stood out: “He looks so much like his dad.”

In the divorce filing, Marieangela is seeking $6,000 in monthly spousal support and hopes to keep their 2017 Toyota Prius. If Elijah keeps the car, she’s requesting a $2,000 one-time payout and an extra $500 per month. She also asked the court to order Elijah to pay her legal fees.

The couple, who married in 2013, officially separated on March 31, 2025. In a public statement, Marieangela said, “We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish. I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart.”

But reactions online were far from peaceful. Some users poked fun at the request for the Prius—“Out of all the things to want… a Prius?!”—while others questioned the financial motives behind the filing. One user even speculated, “What she wants is his dead dad’s money.”

Others took a darker turn, accusing Marieangela of enabling Elijah’s struggles with addiction. One commenter wrote, “She used him like an ATM… didn’t help him get off drugs. His mother, CHER, tried to legally take charge of his finances to stop him from spiraling. He refused her help.”

That comment ties into recent legal tensions between mother and son. In January 2025, Elijah had asked the court to dismiss a previous divorce filing after reports that he and Marieangela had reconciled. But the peace didn’t last.

Just a month earlier, in December 2024, Cher filed for conservatorship over her son. In court documents obtained by USA Today, she expressed concern over his ability to manage finances, citing “severe mental health and substance abuse issues.”

The documents warned of the danger Elijah faced if he continued to receive regular payouts from a trust fund left to him by his late father. “Any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs,” Cher alleged, “leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting his life at risk.”

Cher also accused Marieangela of actively undermining her son’s sobriety, even claiming that she once tried to pull Elijah from a treatment facility.

The strained mother-son relationship is nothing new. Back in 2016, Elijah revealed he had secretly married Marieangela without his mother’s blessing. “I wasn’t going to wait for anyone’s approval,” he said. “That’s how I’ve lived my whole life.”

He’s also been open about the emotional distance between them. Elijah once said he and Marieangela were not invited to Cher’s Malibu home for Christmas, a painful reminder of the cracks in their family bond. At one point, they even moved out of Cher’s house following growing tensions. Elijah reflected, “Those feelings come up for any mother… that their son’s being lost to another woman.”

He also offered insight into what it was like growing up as the child of a global superstar: “Superstars are a difficult and unique breed… You have to be superficial to be a mega celebrity.”

Despite everything, Elijah has acknowledged that Cher made genuine attempts to support him through the years. Their relationship, though complicated, is rooted in love and concern—however strained.

Now, as Elijah faces a new chapter in his personal life, the public is once again watching closely. And while headlines may focus on the drama, what lingers underneath is a deeply human story of family, struggle, and the fragile hope for reconciliation.
