Ruth Langsford Opens Up About Her Fear of Alzheimer’s After Both Parents Were Diagnosed

Ruth Langsford has opened up about her growing fear of developing Alzheimer’s—a disease that has left a lasting mark on her family.

The 63-year-old Loose Women host shared the emotional weight she carries, having lost her father, Dennis, to the condition in 2012. Her mother, Joan, is now living in a care facility after also being diagnosed with dementia.

Dennis began showing symptoms of Alzheimer’s back in the 1990s and remained under home care until he passed. Sadly, Joan followed a similar path, later receiving the same devastating diagnosis.

In a candid interview with Woman & Home magazine, Ruth admitted, “I’m a bit head-in-the-sand about Alzheimer’s. Both my parents had it, I know exactly what it means—and it terrifies me.”

Despite her strong family history, Ruth has decided against taking a predictive test, explaining that knowing her chances wouldn’t make a difference since there’s still no cure.

Even everyday forgetfulness, like misplacing her glasses, can spark worry. Yet Ruth is determined to stay focused on the present—living a healthy life while also embracing joy and balance.

She hopes that by speaking openly, she can help raise awareness of how deeply dementia affects families.
