Bill Clinton Sounds Off: Criticizes Trump’s Behavior, Weighs In on Biden’s Mental Fitness

In a candid interview with CBS Sunday Morning on June 1, 2025, former President Bill Clinton didn’t hold back as he criticized Donald Trump’s leadership style and addressed growing concerns about President Joe Biden’s health and capacity to lead.

Clinton reflected on the limits of presidential power, especially under Trump. He noted that although Trump has tried to overstep his bounds, the courts — including judges he appointed — are still capable of reining him in. “Oh yeah,” Clinton said when asked if there are limits to Trump’s power. “The courts,” he added, “including a lot of judges he appointed.”

Still, he warned that Trump seems determined to find ways around legal constraints — a move Clinton says would hurt both the former president and the country.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” Clinton added, referring to Trump’s leadership. “Someone saying, ‘Whatever I want should be the law.’ Most Americans don’t support that.”

He also believes Trump’s behavior has come with a cost. “He’s paid a price for all the name-calling and power games,” Clinton said, adding, “I think it’s made him less popular.”

As a former Arkansas attorney general, Clinton also took aim at Trump’s efforts to block certain law firms from representing clients at the federal level over political differences. “That ain’t America,” he said firmly. “The whole point of our legal system is to ensure both sides get heard.”

Clinton emphasized the importance of unity and common ground. He called for Americans to protect the nation’s legacy — not tear it down. “Someone has to stand up and say what we have in common matters more. Trust can’t be thrown away.”

On Biden: “He Was Always on Top of His Briefs”

During the same interview, Clinton responded to recent headlines surrounding President Biden’s age and cognition. A book titled Original Sin had stirred speculation that those close to Biden noticed mental and physical decline. But Clinton stood by the 82-year-old president.

“I never walked away from a conversation thinking, ‘He can’t do this anymore,’” Clinton said. “He was always sharp.”

He acknowledged that the only real concern was whether anyone could endure the intensity of the job until age 86.

His defense of Biden came on the heels of audio recordings released from Biden’s October 2023 interviews with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The sessions, each around three hours, revolved around Biden’s handling of classified documents.

In those recordings — obtained by Axios — Biden sounded confused at times, struggled to recall key dates (including his son’s death and Trump’s election), and spoke slowly with pauses and slurred words. His legal team often stepped in to assist.

The audio quickly made waves online, sparking emotional reactions. Some called the recordings “heartbreaking,” “sad,” and even “horrifying.” One person wrote, “No wonder they tried to cover this up.”

Some criticized those around Biden rather than the president himself, blaming Democratic leadership, the media, and his family for not stepping in. A Republican listener compared the situation to “asking someone without legs to walk,” suggesting it was unfair to expect Biden to continue.

Others warned that the recordings show Biden was struggling to follow basic questions — making the idea of another term seem unrealistic, even dangerous.

With questions mounting about age, power, and responsibility, it’s clear the conversation is far from over.
