Johnny’s math grade was so bad that his teacher called home. That afternoon, his dad met him at the door with a stern expression.

“Why did you fail your math test?” he demanded.

Johnny shrugged. “It’s my teacher’s fault—she’s not very good.”

His dad, surprised by the excuse, pressed for more. “What do you mean?”

Johnny explained, “On Monday, she said 3 plus 5 is 8. Then on Tuesday, she said 4 plus 4 is 8. And on Wednesday, it was 6 plus 2 equals 8.”

He threw up his hands. “If she doesn’t even know what makes eight, how am I supposed to figure it out?”
