“I drive a school bus and want to share a story about one of my sixth graders. Last week, he mentioned an elderly neighbor who hadn’t left her house in weeks. I tried to explain how difficult it might be for her to manage daily tasks on her own.
The following Tuesday, he wasn’t waiting at the bus stop. Looking closer, I saw him shoveling her porch. I had arrived early, so I waited to see what he would do next. The other kids noticed and asked why I was waiting.
I told them, ‘Anyone who helps others deserves a few extra minutes.’ That sparked curiosity, and all the children began asking about the neighbor. By the next day, seven kids were boarding the bus carrying blankets, food, and handmade cards for the elderly woman.
I delivered the items after work. Now, she stands on her porch each morning, and the entire bus waves and greets her.
I am so proud of this sixth grader for stepping up and doing the right thing. He taught everyone on the bus a valuable lesson: small acts of kindness can ripple out and inspire others. My heart smiles every day because I am surrounded by such wonderful kids.”
