A nine-year-old boy answered the knock at the door.
“Is your mother or father at home?” asked the farmer.
“No, they went into town,” the boy replied.
“What about your brother Howard? Is he here?”
“No, he went with them,” the boy said.
The farmer stood there for a moment, shifting from one foot to the other and mumbling to himself.
“I can leave a message for my dad,” the boy offered, “or I can show you where all the tools are if you need to borrow one.”
The farmer shook his head. “No, I really need to speak with your dad about your brother Howard getting my daughter Suzy pregnant.”
The boy thought for a moment and then said, “You’ll have to talk to my dad about that. I know he charges $150 for pigs and $500 for bulls… but I’m not sure what he charges for Howard.”
