Just like us, our favorite child stars grow up, but sometimes, their lives take unexpected turns. Ricky Schroder, once beloved by fans nationwide, has recently sparked concern with his latest appearance.
Read on to learn more about what happened.
Ricky Schroder’s career began in the late 1970s with the film “The Champ,” earning him a Golden Globe and solidifying his status as a child star in Hollywood. He later gained acclaim for his role in “Silver Spoons,” which aired from 1982 to 1987.
After “Silver Spoons” concluded, Schroder transitioned to more mature roles, appearing in shows like “NYPD Blue,” “Scrubs,” and “Strong Medicine.” He also ventured behind the camera as a director and producer, notably directing and producing the 2004 project “Black Cloud,” which won him the Best Director Award at the San Diego International Film Festival.
Despite his professional success, Schroder’s personal life has been tumultuous. In 1992, he was arrested for domestic violence, and charged with assault and battery after an altercation with his then-girlfriend, Andrea Bernard. The couple later married and had four children: Holden, Luke, Cambrie, and Faith. They divorced in 2016.
A source suggested that the split triggered a downward spiral for Schroder, leading to excessive partying and strained relationships, including with his daughter Cambrie. In 2019, he was arrested again for domestic abuse against his girlfriend. Although he was released on $50,000 bail, the case was eventually dismissed.
Since then, Schroder has largely stayed out of the public eye, spending most of his time on his farm. He remains connected with his fans through social media, providing updates on his life.
In a recent Instagram video, Schroder, dressed in farmer attire with a hat and denim shirt, reminisced about his youth and shared insights from his great uncle about the military. He also urged fans to be vigilant against corruption in the federal system.
While the video sparked debate, many fans expressed concern over his appearance, noting he looked more “rough” than they remembered. Comments ranged from, “Ricky, why are you looking so rough?” to “What the hell happened to Ricky Schroder?” and “He looks ROUGH.”
However, some fans defended Schroder, attributing his new appearance to his hard work as a farmer. One fan commented, “He’s living. Hopefully, thriving.” Another wrote, “He looks great! Rough looks good on him!” and a third added, “He’s a farmer/rancher. Hard work is rough on the body. Much respect for Rick, living an honest life.”
