Known for his unique style, Chris Stapleton is a beloved country singer who has had a successful career so far. Stapleton was given the honor of singing the national anthem during this year’s Super Bowl.
This week marked the much-anticipated game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, which officially kicked off at the 2023 Super Bowl on Sunday.
The singer chosen to perform the National Anthem before the festivities began was none other than Chris Stapleton. He entered the field dressed in his signature attire, complete with dark sunglasses.
The Kentucky native then launched into his rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” for everyone in attendance at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, as well as those tuning in on their televisions.
In the past, country singers such as Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, and Mickey Guyton have had the honor of singing the National Anthem at the occasion, and now it was Stapleton’s turn to join this impressive list.
Apart from his performance, the 2023 Super Bowl pregame lineup also included veteran actress Sheryl Lee Ralph’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and R&B artist Babyface performing “America the Beautiful.”
Stapleton’s performance deeply moved many people. Fans took to social media to express their emotions about his rendition of the anthem.
“Best star-spangled banner ever. God Chris Stapleton you are amazing,” one person tweeted. Another added, “OK SING IT CHRIS STAPLETON! This is an excellent version of the national anthem.”
Chris Stapleton has not always been a performer. He started his career as a songwriter and began to make waves as a singer in 2015, performing with Justin Timberlake at the 2015 Country Music Awards. The duo mashed up their respective songs “Tennessee Whiskey” and Timberlake’s “Drink You Away.”
Years later, Stapleton has accumulated dozens of awards, including 16 CMAs, eight Grammy Awards, and 10 Academy of Country Music Awards, among others.
In the past, the singer has spoken about his unique singing style. “I don’t probably sing like a traditional country singer you know, but, ultimately, I’m me,” he said in June 2022. “I’m just trying to be the best version of that that I can be.”
Chris added, “Whether that’s playing a song that leans into blues or a song that leans into R&B or a song that leans into really distinctly outlaw country. I love all that music. And I don’t feel limited to playing one type of song.”
Stapleton’s rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner truly moved thousands of people to tears. Share this piece with others so they can appreciate Chris Stapleton’s beautiful version of the National Anthem as well.
