A mother from Ocala, Florida, captured a touching moment between her newborn twin boys, Cooper and Olsen, and shared it on TikTok. The video, showing the twins meeting each other for the first time, has gone viral with over 50 million views.

In the video, the four-month-old twins lie side by side, smiling, babbling, and touching each other’s arms, clearly delighted by their new-found interaction. Their mother, Meagan, had been encouraging their interaction and was thrilled to witness this milestone.

Meagan was surprised to learn from a friend with twins that recognizing each other is a significant developmental milestone. She noted that while her twins, Cooper and Olsen, had begun to bond with their older brothers, Jackson and Lucas, it was their mutual recognition that brought her immense joy.

The twins, born prematurely at around 33 weeks, spent a month in the NICU. Cooper, affectionately called ‘Mini Cooper,’ weighed 3 pounds, 14 ounces, while Olsen weighed 5 pounds, 1 ounce.

Meagan, who always wanted twins, was initially surprised by the news but was excited to share it with her family. Her oldest son, Jackson, had a strong feeling they would have twin brothers and was unphased by the ultrasound results.

Fun facts about twins:

Fraternal twins, or dizygotic twins, develop from separate eggs, while identical twins, or monozygotic twins, come from a single fertilized egg that splits into two.

Fraternal twins can be of the same gender or different genders, as they come from separate eggs fertilized by different sperm.

Fraternal twins usually each have their own placenta, reducing risks compared to some identical twins who may share one.

A study in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine found that women consuming more dairy products are more likely to conceive twins, with dairy’s insulin-like growth factor (IGF) potentially influencing the likelihood of twin pregnancies.
