When you think of Run DMC’s legendary “Walk This Way,” Steven Tyler breaking down studio walls might come to mind. In 2017, however, Tyler took the stage at Rome’s Colosseum, performing alongside an orchestra and the famed cello duo 2CELLOS, Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, merging rock with classical elements.

Tyler was part of Andrea Bocelli’s Celebrity Fight Night at the Colosseum, as highlighted in Jimmy Walker’s book It’s About Relationships: Building a Life that Matters.

The event, co-founded by Walker, Muhammad Ali, and Bocelli, has raised an incredible $132 million for charity. Walker shares quirky details of Tyler’s appearance, recalling how he arrived chewing gum and even stuck it under Elton John’s piano while performing Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”

Tyler’s collaboration with 2CELLOS was a striking blend of genres. They performed not only Aerosmith hits like “Dream On” and “Walk This Way” but also pieces like the Game of Thrones theme and the Italian classic “Funiculi Funicula.” The performance was so well-received that fan Azucena Pe commented on 2CELLOS’ Facebook page, applauding their synergy with Tyler.
