Tom Selleck looked almost unrecognizable from his 80s heyday when he was spotted in California on Tuesday. The 79-year-old actor, famous for his role in Magnum P.I., was seen in a casual outfit, sporting a bushy beard while out in Thousand Oaks.
Wearing a simple blue T-shirt, a matching linen shirt, and black sneakers, Selleck’s appearance raised questions, especially since this marked his first public outing since the cancellation of his hit show Blue Bloods.
Fans noticed that he appeared more rugged, with a long beard, and some speculated about his health after he was seen leaving a Thousand Oaks gym earlier this month. Observers pointed out visible scars on both knees, hinting that he may have undergone surgery, which might explain why he seemed to have difficulty walking back to his car.
Despite the speculation, Selleck has not publicly addressed having bilateral knee replacement surgery, although his representative previously denied reports of hidden health issues. Last summer, when rumors surfaced that he was in significant pain while filming Blue Bloods, his manager assured the public that Selleck was “healthy and vibrant.”
Although disappointed by the abrupt end of Blue Bloods after 14 successful seasons, Tom is reportedly looking forward to spending more time on his California ranch with his wife, Jillie. He had been commuting between the East and West coasts for years while filming the series, where he played NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan.
Fans of the show will still see him in the final season, airing in October, and Selleck expressed hope that CBS might reconsider its decision to end the show, acknowledging the devoted fanbase the series has built over the years.
