Michael Madsen has officially filed for divorce from his wife, citing years of alleged abuse and claiming she played a significant role in their son’s tragic decision to take his own life.
The actor submitted the divorce petition on Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences, and revealed that he had separated from his wife, DeAnna Madsen, back in January 2022.
Despite checking the box for irreconcilable differences, Madsen included a statement in the petition suggesting that the issues go far deeper than mere disagreements.
He claims that his wife’s “neglect, drinking, and alcoholism” contributed to their son Hudson’s suicide.
Madsen further alleges that DeAnna, whom he married in 1996, was a key factor in his own struggles. He states that she kept him in an “abusive, co-dependent, and toxic relationship,” which he says ultimately led to his recent arrest for domestic violence.
Last month, Madsen was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence after allegedly pushing DeAnna. He was released after posting $20,000 bail. However, the Los Angeles County District Attorney later declined to file charges due to insufficient evidence. Madsen is now seeking a domestic violence restraining order in addition to the divorce.
A representative for Madsen expressed relief that the actor could move past the arrest, and it appears he is now ready to move on from the marriage as well.
Neither Madsen’s management nor his publicist provided further comments. DeAnna has yet to respond.
