Melanie Griffith remains active as an actress but doesnât appear in as many films as she once did. In 2017, she starred in two movies: James Francoâs The Disaster Artist and the biographical film The Pirates of Somalia, alongside Evan Peters and Al Pacino as journalist Jay Bahadur. By mid-2018, Griffith decided to return to the stage, performing in The Graduate at the Laguna Playhouse in California.
In 2020, she appeared with Demi Moore in the TV series Dirty Diana and alongside her daughter Dakota Johnson in The High Note. Sheâs also set to star in a film called Akil, directed by her ex-husband Antonio Banderas.
Griffith has been battling skin cancer since 2009, which has significantly impacted her life. She often has visible marks from laser treatments used to remove cancerous cells, which can leave scars. In 2018, she shared a selfie, announcing that it was her last surgery to remove skin cancer from her face. Though she supported plastic surgery for years, she eventually expressed regret over some of her procedures.
âI started having cosmetic surgery around 20 years ago because I was afraid of aging. However, I made a terrible mistake that became clear when I began reading comments about my appearance. But I worked hard to correct it,â Griffith admitted.
Melanie has also had periods of absence from the public eye, due in part to her struggles with alcohol and drugs. After multiple injuries, she developed a dependency on painkillers. She fought these addictions for years, attending support classes and checking herself into rehab to overcome them.
Despite these challenges, Griffith remains hopeful about finding love and starting a new relationship. She has been married four times, including two marriages to actor Don Johnson. She has four children: Dakota Johnson and stepson Jesse Johnson from Don Johnson, daughter Stella Banderas from Antonio Banderas, and son Alexander Bauer from Steven Bauer. Griffith maintains positive relationships with her childrenâs fathers, stating, âTheyâre all my friends, and I love them with all my heart.â
