Welcoming a new family member at the start and end of the year is a joyous way to celebrate! A New Jersey family can certainly relate, as Eve and Billy Humphrey were already excited about expecting twins—but they received an even bigger surprise when their babies were born in two different years! This twist was especially unexpected since Eve’s due date was originally late January.

As the couple headed to the hospital on New Year’s Eve, they were filled with excitement, especially since Billy hoped his birthday, December 31, would coincide with the arrival of his two sons.

“What an incredible birthday gift!” Billy exclaims. “The thought crossed my mind that maybe, just maybe, I’d get the best present of all.”

Billy’s hope proved true—at 11:48 p.m., their first son, Ezra, arrived, weighing in at 6 pounds.

“When he was born, I couldn’t help but think about the tax benefits,” Eve laughs, recalling how the thought of an extra deduction crossed her mind.

But Ezra’s brother, Ezekiel, took his time and made his grand entrance at 12:28 a.m. on New Year’s Day, weighing 4 pounds, 15 ounces.

“I was still pushing as everyone counted down to midnight. We all shouted ‘Happy New Year!’ right as I was trying to bring Ezekiel into the world,” Eve shares with a laugh.

The Humphrey family has plenty to celebrate as December turns into January—Dad, Ezra, and Ezekiel now all share birthdays across New Year’s Eve and Day. And as if that weren’t enough, their big brother, Hezekiah, turns three on January 3!

Billy believes his sons are destined to make a big difference in the world. “They needed their own special day, didn’t they? Both of them deserve their moment in the spotlight,” he says proudly.
