Angie Stone, the celebrated singer and member of the iconic hip-hop trio The Sequence, tragically passed away in a car crash on Friday in Montgomery, Alabama.

Stone, who was married to Rodney Stone, also known as Lil’ Rodney C! of the group Funky Four Plus One, had a daughter named Diamond, born in 1984, before the couple filed for divorce. In the 1990s, Stone had a relationship with neo-soul artist D’Angelo, and they had a son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, in 1998.

Diamond, 41, confirmed the heartbreaking news of her mother’s death, sharing on Facebook, “My mommy is gone.” The passing was also confirmed by veteran promoter Van Silk, who explained in a statement to AllHipHop that he had received a call from Stone’s team.

Initially, he thought the call was regarding her kidney dialysis treatments, but it was later revealed that the cause of death was a tragic car accident. Stone was among nine people traveling in a Sprinter van after a show in Alabama, heading back to Atlanta when the crash occurred.
