This morning started just like any other. I rolled out of my warm bed in my cozy little home and went about my usual routine — a hot shower, a quick brush with my electric toothbrush, and slipping into fresh clothes to begin the day.

Not once did I stop to think about what life would be like without these comforts — no warm bed, no steaming shower, no wardrobe full of options. I didn’t think about those who face that reality every single day. But then I came across this story, and it really made me pause and reflect.

Bobby, a homeless man living in Rome, New York, recently had a run-in with local police officer Aaron Page. But instead of things escalating, Page took the time to talk with Bobby. Their conversation turned into something powerful when Bobby shared something simple he longed for — things many of us don’t even think twice about: a hot shower and a haircut.

Officer Page invited Bobby to visit the station the next morning. When he arrived, several officers were ready to help — Sgt. Frank Fragapane, George Gebo, and Jeff Buckley joined in. Bobby was given a warm shower, clean clothes including jeans, a crisp button-down shirt, and brand-new sneakers. Then came a much-needed haircut and shave.

Bobby’s hair and beard were tangled and overgrown, but the officers quickly got him cleaned up, revealing a refreshed and confident version of the man underneath. And before he left, they handed Bobby a bag of donated clothing to take with him.

“He walked out looking like a whole new man and was incredibly grateful,” the department shared.
