Denise Alexander, Beloved General Hospital Star, Has Passed Away
Denise Alexander, cherished for her long-running role as Lesley Webber on General Hospital, has died.
The news was shared on Friday by General Hospital’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, who honored her legacy by calling her someone who “broke barriers on-screen and off.” He added, “It meant so much to have her reprise her role in recent years, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with her.”
Denise returned to General Hospital for the show’s anniversary specials in 2013 and 2019, and made her final appearance on the beloved daytime drama in 2021.
Her contributions to television spanned beyond Port Charles. From 1966 to 1973, she also had a memorable run on Days of Our Lives, adding to her status as a daytime television icon.
A natural performer, Denise began her entertainment career at just six years old. Her talents weren’t limited to acting — she worked in radio, pursued photography professionally, and was recognized for her artistic eye behind the lens.
Academically accomplished, Denise earned her degree in English with a minor in art from UCLA, later continuing postgraduate studies. During this time, she also gained experience in real estate before being approached again by Days of Our Lives creators Ted and Betty Corday. She later told the Schenectady Gazette in 1971 how “thankful” she was to have accepted the role.
Denise shared her life and career with her husband, Richard A. Colla, a director and producer, until his death in 2021. The two collaborated professionally and shared a daughter, Elizabeth.
Denise Alexander’s passing marks the end of an era for soap opera fans and Hollywood alike — her legacy will continue to inspire through the roles she played and the barriers she helped break.
