New Biography Reveals Freddie Mercury Had a Secret Daughter He Loved Deeply
A new biography about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury claims he fathered a secret daughter with whom he maintained a close relationship until his death in 1991.
The book, Love, Freddie, by rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, reveals that Mercury’s daughter—known only as “B”—was the result of a 1976 affair with the wife of one of Mercury’s close friends. Despite the unexpected circumstances of her birth, Mercury is said to have cherished her and remained a devoted father throughout his life.
Now 48 and working as a medical professional in Europe, B has shared Mercury’s personal journals—17 volumes in total—that he gave her during their time together. She kept these writings hidden until now, choosing to reveal them three decades later so that, in her words, “Freddie can speak.”
In a handwritten letter included in the book, B writes:
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship… He adored me and was devoted to me.”
She acknowledges the unconventional nature of her birth but insists it never diminished Mercury’s love or care for her. “He cherished me like a treasured possession,” she says.

According to the biography, Mercury began writing his diaries on June 20, 1976, just days after learning about the pregnancy. The journals span from his early life in Zanzibar and school years in India to his family’s move to London after the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution. His final entry, written on July 31, 1991, came as his health was rapidly declining due to AIDS-related complications. Mercury died later that year at age 45.
B’s identity remained known only to a select few within Mercury’s inner circle. She says her decision to come forward now was entirely her own:
“After more than three decades of lies, speculation and distortion, it is time to let Freddie speak. Those who have been aware of my existence kept his greatest secret out of loyalty.”

Biographer Lesley-Ann Jones revealed she was first contacted by B three years ago and initially approached the story with skepticism. However, after years of working together, Jones says she is fully convinced B is telling the truth.
“No one could have faked all this,” she told the Daily Mail. “She never asked for anything. She just wanted his story told.”
