FBI Reopens Investigation Into White House Cocaine Mystery
The FBI has taken an unexpected step by reopening its probe into one of the most bizarre controversies of the Biden administration: the discovery of a mysterious bag of cocaine inside the West Wing in July 2023.
On May 26th, Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the bureau is revisiting several unresolved, high-profile cases. Among them are the leak of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, the unsolved 2021 pipe bomb incident in Washington, D.C., and notably, the puzzling White House cocaine case.

“In our initial review of potential public corruption cases after taking office, the Director and I identified several matters that warranted deeper scrutiny,” Bongino wrote. “We’ve now either reopened these investigations or allocated more resources to them. I receive weekly updates, and these cases are actively moving forward.”
The cocaine discovery sent shockwaves nationwide. On July 2, 2023, Secret Service agents found a small bag of cocaine hidden in a cubby near the West Wing entrance—a heavily trafficked area for staff, visitors, and high-ranking guests. The finding triggered an immediate evacuation of the White House. At the time, President Joe Biden and his family were away at Camp David.

While the FBI confirmed the substance was cocaine, no usable fingerprints or DNA evidence were recovered from the bag. The list of potential suspects—over 500 employees and visitors—was simply too large for the Secret Service to narrow down, and the case quickly went cold.
Former President Donald Trump recently reignited public interest by commenting on the case during an interview. “It was such a terrible thing,” he said. “Those bins are used by so many people, and there should have been hundreds of fingerprints—yet it was wiped clean.”
When pressed on who he thought was responsible, Trump was direct: “Either Joe or Hunter,” he told interviewer Ben Domenech of The Spectator. “It might also be Joe.”
Although President Biden and his son Hunter were confirmed to be at Camp David at the time, speculation persists—largely due to Hunter Biden’s well-publicized history. In his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things, Hunter candidly detailed his battle with crack cocaine addiction. “I spent more time on my hands and knees picking through carpets, smoking anything that looked like crack,” he told CBS’s Tracy Smith. He even joked, “I probably smoked more Parmesan cheese than anyone you know.”

Hunter has since testified under oath that he has been sober since 2019.
As photos of the cocaine bag and its location within one of the world’s most secure buildings continue to circulate, questions about White House security protocols have intensified. With the FBI’s renewed focus, many are hopeful that this strange mystery may finally be solved.
Whether this investigation uncovers new evidence or narrows down suspects remains to be seen. What is certain is that the West Wing cocaine case is far from closed—and the eyes of the public and federal agents remain fixed on the unfolding story.
