Dakota Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin have reportedly ended their nearly eight-year relationship—and insiders suggest this time, it’s truly over.

According to People magazine, the couple, who began dating in 2017, have officially split. Their relationship has seen its share of ups and downs over the years, marked by rumors of both engagements and breakups.

The pair was last photographed together on May 16, 2025, in Malibu. Johnson is currently filming her new movie Materialists, while Martin is touring with Coldplay, adding to the speculation that their busy lives may have played a role in the separation.

The breakup follows years of public speculation about the status of their romance. In January, they were seen holding hands in India during Coldplay’s tour, sparking hope among fans that they were still going strong. Earlier in 2024, reports claimed they had secretly been engaged for several years, though neither ever confirmed it publicly. While rumors of a breakup swirled in August 2024, Johnson’s representatives shut them down at the time.

This time, however, those close to the couple believe it’s permanent. “It feels final this time,” a source told People.

Fans took to social media to share their reactions. One devastated follower wrote, “Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to describe how I’m feeling. They were one of my favorites.” Another speculated, “Was he ever going to propose? Maybe she wants a family.” Others simply expressed their sadness, while one fan commented, “Finally Dakota will be free. She deserves more and better.”

Some speculated whether someone else may have been involved in the split—specifically actor Pedro Pascal, Johnson’s co-star in Materialists. “This is what happens when you do a movie with Pedro Pascal,” one person commented. Another chimed in, “Okay now date Pedroooo,” while a fan added, “Hopefully she is dating Pedro Pascal. Because same.”

In Materialists, Johnson stars alongside Pascal and Chris Evans. Director Celine Song spoke about the dynamic on set, highlighting the magnetic chemistry between the three leads. “They’re just so into each other,” she said, adding that the chemistry was carefully crafted to match the tone and emotion of each scene.

Off-camera, Johnson and Pascal also appear to share a close bond. On a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johnson joked that Pascal frequently borrows her clothes. “He does that a lot,” she laughed. “He takes my clothes.”

As breakup rumors swirled, Johnson was spotted in New York looking effortlessly fashionable. The Fifty Shades of Grey star wore a textured cream top with a brown skirt and a large knit hat that partly concealed her face. She completed the look with a Gucci tote bag while leaving the Greenwich Hotel and stepping into a car.
