A woman on Reddit’s r/relationship_advice shared the unsettling way she discovered her husband’s affair. She began by recalling how her husband once compared her to another woman, Noelle, saying Noelle was “far superior” to her during a casual conversation.
“I told him it was completely unnecessary and hurtful to compare her to me in order to compliment her,” she wrote. He dismissed her feelings, accusing her of being unfair and jealous, then dropped the subject.
The very next day, she noticed a pair of expensive women’s sunglasses sitting on the kitchen counter. When she asked her husband and her eldest son about them, both denied knowing who they belonged to. Her husband claimed he had no idea, while her son said they were his friend Allison’s.
Suspicious, she told them she would return the sunglasses to Allison. However, after contacting Allison’s mother, she learned neither Allison nor her mother owned such glasses. When she confronted her son again, his story shifted from insisting they were Allison’s to admitting he wasn’t sure at all.
Her husband then chimed in, saying he remembered taking the sunglasses out of their son’s backpack while fetching his lunch. The following day, her youngest son revealed that the glasses belonged to Noelle — the very same woman her husband had compared her to.
“When I heard that, my heart skipped a beat,” she wrote. Later, when her husband returned home, she confronted him. He claimed he didn’t realize the glasses were Noelle’s, insisting he thought they were his wife’s and therefore hadn’t moved them. But she soon learned that her eldest son had known the truth all along and lied to protect his father.
When the woman went to return the sunglasses to Noelle, she was stunned to hear Noelle say, “Why would I care if we were separated anyway?” That’s when the truth spilled out — her husband had lied to Noelle as well, telling her he and his wife were divorcing.
Both women were devastated by his deception. When she pressed him for answers, he admitted he was unsure about his feelings for Noelle and had been afraid of losing his wife. In the end, she kicked him out, and Noelle ended the relationship too.
Now, the Redditor says she’s in the process of divorcing her husband and will only communicate with him through their lawyers.
