When I was a child, my grandparents came to speak to my parents about some “adult issue,” and after that, we never communicated with them again. At the time, I had no idea what had happened.
Years later, I connected with a cousin on Facebook, and we met for coffee. That’s when I discovered the truth: my mother had opened multiple credit cards in my grandmother’s name and racked up debt she never intended to repay. My cousin and I decided to keep this knowledge between us, and she has no idea that I know.
Here’s another story: I found out that I have another brother whom my father never told us about. Oddly enough, we attended the same school, and I even served him sandwiches at the local deli where I worked. We probably crossed paths thousands of times before realizing we were siblings.
Once we got to know each other, I discovered he’s pretty awesome. It’s a shame we didn’t grow up together, but at least we’ve now found a meaningful connection in the same town.
