If you like Elvis Presley or good music in general, you probably like hearing different versions of classic Rock n’ Roll songs. Even better if the covers are good in ways you didn’t expect. Talent shows, like the one you’re about to watch, are the best place to find new voices singing the songs we all know and love.
You might think that a talent show is an interesting way to find new talent, but this isn’t true. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Christina Aguilera, and Beyoncé all started their successful careers on the 1990s TV show “Stars Search.”
Also, a lot of music stars got their start by winning singing contests. Leona Lewis, One Direction, Little Mix, and James Arthur all became well-known because of the X Factor U.K. In the United States, The X Factor is where Fifth Harmony got together. Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Lambert all got their start on American Idol.
Even though the United Kingdom and the United States have had the most well-known stars so far, other countries also have a lot of great talent. Benedikt Kostler is one of these contestants. He was 16 when he tried out for The Voice. With his great performance, he caught the attention of both the judges and the audience.
Benedikt walked out on stage looking like a normal teen, in a clean outfit and with his hair done. When he started singing, everyone was surprised because they thought he would sing a Bruno Mars or Justin Bieber song. In fact, first impressions aren’t always right. Everyone was surprised by how deep Benedikt’s voice was. He sang “Always on My Mind” by Elvis Presley.
He hasn’t been singing for even 10 seconds when the crowd starts to cheer, and he has already caught the attention of the judges. He gets his first “I want you” from the judge in the same minute that the crowd keeps cheering for him.
The second judge presses “I want you,” which makes her chair turn toward Benedikt. When she sees how he looks, which doesn’t match his voice, she can’t help but be surprised! Benedikt’s face and body language now show that he is confident and happy. He starts playing high notes that impress the other judges, and he gets the maximum four votes!
Everyone who left a comment said that Benedikt was a real find. Even though the show is in German, there are a lot of English comments, which shows that good talent is appreciated everywhere.
One person who liked Benedikt’s performance said, “He had a deep, kind of raspy country voice that I wouldn’t have expected from someone as young as him.” Benedikt, you’ve done a fantastic job. Since I’m such a fan, I think I’ll get ready to watch this more than once.”
“I can’t get enough of this audition,” says someone else. “That’s great!”
