We’ve all seen homeless people on the street at some point, and our hearts go out to them, but we rarely stop to help them. Cesia Abigail Baires, on the other hand, took the time to help a homeless man, which paid off in a big way for both of them.
Cesia owns Abi’s Cafe in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One day, a homeless man named Marcus came in and asked her for some money. Cesia looked at him straight on and asked, “Why don’t you have a job?” You know I don’t get anything for nothing, right?”
Marcus said that he wanted a job more than anything in the world, but he couldn’t get one because of his criminal record. This is why he was homeless.
This hurt Cesia very much. She was the 20th owner of Abi’s Cafe, and even though she worked hard, it was hard for her to keep it going. She was going through hard times herself, so she felt bad for Marcus.
“Like a lot of homeless people, I’ve seen him walking up and down Main Street before,” she said. “As soon as he walked into the restaurant, I felt like I knew him. He asked for money when he came in.”
On that day, Cesia was short on workers, and she needed help badly, so she made Marcus an offer.
“I didn’t have enough workers that day, so I asked him, ‘Do you want to work? “I have a job for you!'” she wrote on Facebook. “His eyes got big and his smile brightened my day!!!! “I’ll do anything to get some food,” he said. So, he’s been on time for his two-hour shift, helping take out the trash, wash dishes, etc., for almost two weeks. What does he do after I pay him? He decides to pay for food at my restaurant because it makes him feel good!”
Cesia added, “Marcus is a different person now that he has a new job. He has more confidence in himself and is a different person.” “Do something nice for someone today, and don’t judge them for asking for money because we don’t know what’s going on in their lives… Some people need another chance. God gave me this gift, so why can’t I give gifts to other people?
Cesia has said that Marcus has helped her just as much as she has helped him.
She said, “He has been a blessing for me.” “I don’t think of myself as a blessing for him. I see it as God blessing me so that I can bless him and so that he can bless me.
Cesia has since raised more than $8,000 in donations to help Marcus get off the streets. We’re so happy that their story ended so well!
