The house, constructed in 1916, has an interesting history. According to my landlord, on the opposite side of this wall was once a “sewing room”. With approximately eight bedrooms, the house was well-equipped for its era.
Despite my efforts, I haven’t been able to locate the backside of the tiny door. It’s painted over and feels securely shut, almost as if it’s locked. While the house does have a complex laundry chute system, this feature appears too small to be a part of it. The room itself seems to have been originally designed as a bedroom, complete with a bathroom and closet, both of which are not adjacent to this intriguing architectural detail.
