Sgt. 1st Class Michaela Shelton, a member of the U.S. Army Field Band, has become a beacon of joy for children, thanks to a heartwarming rendition of “Do-Re-Mi” from “The Sound of Music.”

In a live video session amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Shelton sang along with 18 kids, aged 4 to 12, aiming to alleviate their anxiety and stress during these uncertain times.

Expressing her motivation behind the sing-along video, Shelton emphasized the healing power of music and its ability to bring people together. As a former high school music teacher, she understands the importance of fostering connections, especially during challenging times.

Hailing from Moorestown, N.J., Shelton’s infectious smile lit up the virtual gathering as she led the children through the iconic song. Reflecting on her experience, she expressed missing her students and how their enthusiasm never fails to brighten her day.

The Army Field Band’s initiative, “We Stand Ready,” launched daily live broadcasts on March 20 to support Americans’ emotional well-being during the pandemic, with Shelton’s participation adding a touch of musical delight to the initiative.
