Heroic Grandmother Rescues Baby Falling 15 Feet from Window
In the Russian city of Novokuznetsk, a courageous grandmother unexpectedly became a hero when she saved a baby’s life while walking home from the supermarket.
On July 21, 2021, Svetlana Sanarova, 64, noticed a toddler clinging to a second-floor window out of the corner of her eye and acted swiftly.
Divine providence seemed to play a role in this miraculous rescue, positioning the grandmother perfectly to intervene and save the baby’s life. Our lives are indeed in God’s hands, and He orchestrates moments of rescue and deliverance.
Svetlana dropped her bags and rushed to the window just in time. Surveillance footage captured the heart-stopping moment as she caught the boy named Egor after his 15-foot fall.
Egor’s father, Dmitry Teryokhin, 27, rushed down to his son after Svetlana saved him. “I thought, if I didn’t catch him, he would crash before my eyes,” shared Svetlana.
Reflecting on the dramatic rescue, Svetlana recalled, “I had to run and catch him, or it would have been much worse. He was quite heavy, but I didn’t think about the risk at that moment.” Despite the urgency of the situation, Teryokhin thanked her but initially didn’t catch her name.
After the incident, Svetlana returned home, unaware of the attention her heroic act would soon receive. It took six days and social media posts before she was identified and honored by authorities.
Teryokhin offered Svetlana 1,000 rubles ($13.56 USD), but she politely refused, feeling it was unnecessary. She accepted the gesture but tucked the money away, stating, “I don’t need it.”
“I didn’t think about the risk; I was only afraid that he would die,” Svetlana shared emotionally. “Afterward, I worried about his condition until I read in the newspaper that he only suffered minor bruises.”
This heartwarming story highlights the selflessness and bravery of a grandmother who acted swiftly to save a child in distress. It serves as a reminder of the incredible ways in which ordinary people can become heroes in critical moments.
