When Danielle Davis married the love of her life, she hoped for a happy future. Unfortunately, just seven months into their marriage, her husband, Matt, had a motorcycle accident and ended up on life support.

Doctors were not optimistic about his recovery, advising Danielle to consider taking him off life support. Despite this, Danielle decided to keep Matt on life support, holding out for a miracle. “I felt that God could carry him through, and God could handle the situation,” she said.

Once Matt could no longer stay at the hospital, Danielle and her mother-in-law brought him home, caring for him and ensuring he was comfortable. Danielle remarked, “Let’s give him the best view in the world if he’s just going to be a body in a bed.”

As time passed and hope dwindled, Matt surprised everyone by waking up. His ability to open his eyes was considered a miracle. He then began a gradual journey of psychological and physical recovery. Danielle felt reassured about his unchanged personality when, in a barely audible whisper, he responded to what he wanted to eat with, “buffalo chicken wrap from Cheddar’s,” his favorite. “We all turned around because we understood what he said,” Danielle recounted.

Matt then enrolled in another rehab program for two and a half months, eventually leaving with a walker. Although it’s taken time for him to regain his sense of humor and long-term memory, he doesn’t recall dating or marrying Danielle. They’re essentially rediscovering each other. She calls him “Mattie” or “cake,” and he calls her “baby” or “doughnut.”

Engaging in activities like playing Scrabble and attending yoga classes together, they enjoy each other’s company. Recently, he started driving a stick shift car for fun because he loves cars, as Danielle pointed out.

Despite the difficulties, Matt’s sense of humor remains. He even has a lighthearted piece of advice for husbands, “Take out the trash because there might be a day when you can’t.”

Matt’s story is a testament to the power of prayer and faith in God. A bystander to his incredible journey remarked, “Just have faith; nothing is too big for our God.” Another added, “With God, anything is possible.”
