Desi Arnaz Jr., the son of Lucille Ball, made a rare appearance on social media recently.

On Saturday, August 3, Lucie Arnaz, 73, shared two Instagram photos of herself with her 71-year-old brother as they attended a family dinner in Las Vegas for the STLV: The 58-Year Mission. In one photo, Lucie is seen resting her head on Desi Jr.’s shoulder with her hands around his arm, while another captures both of them looking at the camera.

Lucie, the daughter of the late I Love Lucy stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, expressed her gratitude to her husband Laurence Luckinbill’s son Nick for treating them to a “grand meal at Wally’s,” as mentioned in the caption. She playfully remarked, “With our special guest, my stubborn brother Desi Arnaz Jr.! Desi is alive and well, my friends; he just prefers to stay a little ‘undercover.’”

The caption also noted that Laurence was being honored during the 35th Anniversary of Star Trek V Celebration at the Treksperts Convention for his role as Spock’s brother, Sybok, in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Lucie highlighted her husband’s involvement, mentioning that he would be taking photos, signing books, and participating in two panels related to his recently published book, Affective Memories: How Chance and the Theater Saved My Life.

The post included other photos of Lucie with friends, including Vegas star Clint Holmes and his wife Kelly, as well as Maximillian Von Anhalt and Sunny Sessa. Lucie expressed her delight in spending time with such “smart, interesting, funny, involved, talented, and lovable friends and family.”

Desi Jr. has remained out of the public eye in recent years, especially following the passing of his wife, Amy Arnaz, who died of cancer on January 23, 2015, at the age of 63.

Despite their parents’ divorce in 1960, Lucie and Desi Jr. maintained a close relationship with their parents, who continued to care deeply for each other. Lucie told PEOPLE in 2022, “They loved each other until the end.” Their family’s story, including the relationship between Lucille and Desi, was also explored in the 2022 documentary Lucy and Desi, produced by Amy Poehler.
