Prince William made a solo appearance in Llanelli, Wales, just one day after Kate Middleton’s emotional announcement that she had completed chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
The visit on September 10 held deep significance for both William and Kate, marking nearly two years since they were granted the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales by King Charles after Queen Elizabeth’s passing. Kate, focusing on her recovery, did not join William on this occasion.
In a heartfelt video on September 9, Kate, 42, shared that her chemotherapy treatment had ended. The video also featured William and their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. “This experience has reminded William and me to cherish the simple but important things in life, like love and being loved,” Kate expressed.
During his visit to Llanelli, William engaged with schoolchildren, celebrated Welsh culture, and supported causes close to his heart. He began his day at Swiss Valley Community Primary School, where he was greeted warmly. Jo Davies, the head teacher, mentioned that William greeted everyone in Welsh with a “bore da,” meaning “good morning.”
William interacted with students who took part in the 2024 Urdd Eisteddfod, a festival celebrating the Welsh language and culture. He watched performances and spoke with participants, including 10-year-old Ruby Davies, who won a Welsh learners’ reciting competition. Ruby’s enthusiasm caught William’s attention, and he was particularly complimentary about her performance.
After the school visit, William turned his attention to rugby, visiting Parc y Scarlets, the home of the Scarlets Rugby Union team. He highlighted the contributions of Welsh female rugby players and supported the Welsh Rugby Union’s “Missing Caps” campaign. William also met with the women’s team, who recently qualified for the 2025 World Cup.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have a long connection to Wales. William previously served as a RAF Search and Rescue pilot based in Anglesey, where the couple lived for several years. Their strong ties to the country continue as they embrace their roles, focusing on earning the respect and trust of the Welsh people.
William’s visit to Wales followed his return to public duties after a summer break, with an appearance at a London art gallery on September 5.
