Queen Camilla has adjusted her schedule for the upcoming Qatar state visit as she continues to recover from a chest infection. Buckingham Palace announced on December 2 that the Queen, 77, will not attend the ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade on December 3.
Instead, she will participate in select parts of the visit, including a Buckingham Palace lunch, a display of objects, and the evening’s state banquet, though she will skip the receiving line portion.
This change follows her initial diagnosis on November 5, with the palace noting her ongoing post-viral fatigue. Despite these adjustments, there has been no shift in her medical treatment or prognosis, and Camilla is following doctors’ advice to conserve her energy.
The state visit, which welcomes Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, and his wife, Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, will proceed with other royals like Prince William and Kate Middleton attending the opening ceremony. Queen Camilla is expected to join in the farewells on the visit’s final day and, health permitting, plans to attend the Entente Littéraire Prize Ceremony in Paris with Brigitte Macron on December 4.
The Queen has previously missed royal engagements, including Remembrance events in November, prioritizing her recovery. During a reception for The Booker Prize Foundation on November 12, she acknowledged her lingering symptoms but expressed her determination to resume her royal duties.
Her ability to balance rest with her responsibilities highlights a thoughtful approach to her recovery, ensuring she continues to play her role while respecting her health needs.
