Figo, the Heroic Service Dog, Protects Owner from Oncoming Vehicle
In a remarkable act of bravery, a service dog named Figo put his own life on the line to shield his owner, Audrey Stone, from an oncoming vehicle. The driver of an academy transport failed to see Stone and Figo crossing the road, but Figo instinctively recognized the danger. Without hesitation, he threw himself against the nearest part of the vehicle to protect her.

According to USA Today, Brewster Chief of Police John Del Gardo praised Figo’s selflessness, stating, “The canine absorbed a lot of the hit.” Del Gardo emphasized that Figo saved lives and refused to be separated from his owner, positioning himself to face her even in the aftermath of the accident.

Stone sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured right elbow and ankle, as well as three broken ribs. When emergency responders arrived, she remained focused on Figo, repeatedly calling his name. Despite a severe tear in his right leg, Figo remained calm, showing no signs of distress while paramedics treated him.

Since Figo couldn’t accompany Stone in the ambulance, the Brewster Fire Department arranged for him to be transported to a veterinary hospital separately.

Both Figo and Stone underwent surgeries and are now recovering in separate facilities. Their incredible bond and Figo’s courageous act serve as a touching reminder of the unwavering loyalty and heroism of service dogs.
