On the r/relationship_advice subreddit, a woman recently shared how she uncovered her husband’s affair. In her post, she explained that she stumbled upon an expensive pair of women’s sunglasses left on the kitchen counter. When she asked about them, both her husband and eldest son gave dishonest responses. According to her, her husband admitted to speaking with another woman and even commented that this woman was far better than his wife.
“I told him there was no reason to make a comparison like that just to compliment someone else—it was cruel,” she wrote. He accused her of being jealous and overreacting, claimed he didn’t mean it, and never brought the subject up again. So she let it go—until the next day.
That’s when she found the stylish sunglasses in the kitchen. Curious and uneasy, she asked her husband and eldest son if they knew whose they were. Her husband claimed he had no idea, and her son said they belonged to his friend, Allison.
Still skeptical—particularly because the glasses looked far too expensive for a teenager—she told them she would return them to Allison. But when she contacted Allison’s mother, the truth came out. “Her mom said the glasses weren’t Allison’s and that neither of them owned anything like that,” she explained. When she brought it up again with her family, her son’s story started to fall apart. “He went from saying he was sure they were Allison’s to saying, ‘Well, maybe not… maybe I don’t know whose they are.’”
Then her husband chimed in, suddenly recalling that he had taken the sunglasses out of their son’s backpack while packing his lunch.
The real twist came the next day, when her younger son recognized the sunglasses immediately. “Those belong to Noelle,” he said—the same woman her husband had recently complimented and compared her to over breakfast. Her heart sank.
When her husband came home that evening, she confronted him. He claimed he hadn’t realized the glasses were Noelle’s and assumed they were his wife’s—so he left them where they were.
But the bigger revelation came from her eldest son. He had recognized the glasses all along, which was why he lied about them. “He didn’t want me to find out what was really going on,” she wrote.
Eventually, the woman returned the sunglasses directly to Noelle, only to learn even more disturbing news: Noelle had no idea her husband was still married. “She looked completely shocked and asked why it even mattered—she thought we were separated,” the original poster shared.
Both women were heartbroken to discover they’d been deceived. When she later confronted her husband, he admitted he was confused about his feelings. He said he wasn’t sure if his emotions for Noelle were real and had been too afraid to lose his wife to tell the truth.
In the end, both women chose to walk away. The original poster kicked him out of the house, and Noelle ended things as well. The woman concluded by saying she is currently pursuing a divorce and will only communicate with him through their attorneys.
